One of the most frequent questions prospective pilots ask is: How much will it cost to become a pilot ? There are many variables to consider when attempting to determine how much your training will ultimately cost. Here is a list of things a prospective pilot can do to save money and time on flight training:

• Complete your written exams within the first trimester of flight training.
• Join a flying club and use club aircraft for flight training.
• Flight train at least twice a week.
• Chose a flight instructor with at least 1000 hours of "dual given" instruction time.
• Avoid flight training with "weekend" flight instructors or people that are in transition to / from other flying jobs i.e… laid-off pilots.
• Do not train at a Part 141 flight school.
• Make specific flight training goals with your instructor and be prepared for each lesson.

If you follow these simple instructions you will inherently finish your training in less time, with less cost and avoid a lot of potential problems.
